In Lake Havasu City, we salt our margaritas, not our sidewalks. Here’s my go-to recipe for making the perfect margarita to enjoy in your backyard – no blending required.
Ingredients
Margarita
Ice cubs
3 ounces tequila
2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
1 teaspoon Cointreau or orange liqueur
1 tablespoon lime-salt-sugar
Simple Syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Lime-Salt-Sugar
Zest of one lime
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons sugar
Directions
Simple Syrup
Put the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.
Lime-Salt-Sugar
Blend together lime, salt and sugar in a small blender or bowl.
Margarita
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, simple syrup and Cointreau or orange liqueur. Cover and shake for about 30 seconds. Place lime-salt-sugar on a plate, and press the rim of a chilled glass into the mixture to rim the edge. Then strain the margarita mix into the glass.
Enjoy and cheers to living the Havasu life!
